1. When did you first start making music?
When I picked up my first guitar at the age of 15.
2. Who or what are some of your inspirations?
My family, friends, life experiences (pain, happiness, sadness). In terms of musical inspirations: Jason Mraz, Jack Johnson, Bruno Mars, Michael Buble.
3. YouTube has been such a powerful way to connect you to your fans, what is your most memorable fan interaction?
To be honest when I meet my supporters face to face at my shows, getting to talk to them and personally hug and shake their hands is special every single time.
4. Catch Adventures has produced some of the biggest starts in music today including the Far East Movement, how was it when you signed with them and how has it been so far?
It’s been a fun and interesting journey so far. I like to think of this time of my life with Catch Adventures as a constant learning experience. We mutually work together to find the most creative and efficient ways to provide real quality music to those who are willing to listen, and I am thankful to each and every one of them because without them I wouldn’t be where I am today..
5. Can you describe the transition from college student to musical sensation?
It actually hasn’t been that difficult of a transition to go from being a student to a full time singer-songwriter/performer because of the simple fact that I’ve been living the artist and student lifestyle simultaneously for the past couple of years. I had the challenge of balancing touring with studying for exams as a full time student, which definitely wasn’t an easy thing to do. But now that I’ve graduated, I can finally have full focus on my musical career to make my dream a reality.
6. Your covers of songs are incredibly popular, have you ever met some of the artists you’ve covered? If so, how was it?
I’ve actually had a crazier experience, I had the privilege of covering a classic with the actual Grammy winning composer who wrote the song (referring to my cover of “Dance with My Father” with Richard Marx)
7. What advice would you give aspiring musicians?
Stay true to yourself and your vision, if you remain persistent and consistent things will fall into place as they should.
8. What are some things you like to do for fun besides singing?
I love going to the beach and participating in outdoor activities like camping and hiking. I try to work out as much as I can to keep myself healthy enough to endure the wear-and-tear of the touring lifestyle. I also love to play basketball, volleyball and snowboarding…LOVE SNOWBOADRING lol.
9. What does it mean to you to be a Filipino artist?
I consider myself an artist independently from being Filipino. Both make up who I am and being an artist allows me to show everyone that Filipinos can offer something special to the creative world.
10. Can you tell us a little about the experience performing on Ellen twice?
All I can say is that it was such a blessing that I had the privilege of performing on national television…..TWICE!! Haha, the whole thing just sprang up so spontaneously. They contacted me through YouTube messaging saying to call them because they were interested in me after watching my cover of Iyaz’s “Replay”. I was skeptical at first, but I took a leap of faith and shot them a call (one of the best decisions of my life to say the least). Thanks to the Ellen experience it made me realize that I could possibly make music my career (AND I HAVE)
11. Can you tell us about your tattoo?
It’s my initials (JVE) written in an ancient Filipino script called Baybayin tattooed on my chest. Everyone in my family has the same initials so its basically keeping my family close to my heart.
12. We understand you’ve spent some time in Australia and the Philipines performing, what are some of your favorite places to travel to?
To be honest Australia is my most favorite place to tour and play, the people are so friendly and welcoming every time without fail. I was lucky enough to tour Australia twice this year; once in January, shortly since I was still in school, and right now I am currently in Australia as I write this email on a two week tour. (Absolutely amazing country)
13. As a Southern California native, what are some of your favorite restaurants to eat at in LA?
I love my Korean BBQ !!!!! Midori Sushi and Daikoku Ramen too:)
14. What next on the horizon for Joseph Vincent?
I’m comin’ out with an album in 2012….Yeeeeeee!!!!!
all those fairy tales are full of shit
